The research of this book focuses on radial distribution feeder fault protection and optimal relay coordination to mitigate power outage for shashamane substation. Shashamene substation has a voltage level of 132KV incoming line, 132/15kv 12.5MVA transformers and three winding transformer 132/33/15KV 25MVA which serves for outgoing distribution lines. Optimal relay coordination for overcurrent relays depends on two parameters, namely, Time Multiplier and Pickup Current Setting that is useful to determine the operating time of each relay. This research proposes an artificial neural network(ANN) to improve optimized OCR response time to short circuit fault in radial distribution network in order to address miscoordination problem due to wrong response time among adjesent over current relay to the same fault location. The test system comprises of 21 buses, 12 out going lines, two transformers and 18 over current relays. The extracted data from three phase short circuit fault analysis applied in numerical optimization of TMS, Plug setting multiplier and operating time over current relay.
