They are best known for their theatrical live shows, which they perform in cartoonish costumes as various mutant combinations of human bodies with chicken heads except for the lead singer, Carrot Topp and guitarist Cheri Tomato, who are portrayed as giant vegetable people. Carrot Topp and Cheri Tomato are married in real life. Originally named Joe and the Chickenheads, the band first formed in 1993. The band''s first public performance was at their junior high school talent show in 1995. After producing a few homemade cassettes in the 90s, they appeared on a number of compilation CDs, including "Hey Brother 4," which was called the album that saved OC rock in 1998.
