Radiology, a cornerstone in the diagnosis and disease monitoring, is influencing every aspect of patient care and treatment by providing real time and superior imaging of the pathologies on a macroscopic level. As an important diagnostic adjunct, specifically dedicated to imaging the maxillofacial region, a true paradigm shift from 2- dimensional to a 3 -dimensional approach to data acquisition and image reconstruction is heralded. Interest in newer imaging modalities from all fields of dentistry is unprecedented because it has created a revolution in maxillofacial imaging and is expanding the role of imaging from diagnosisto image guidance of operative and surgical procedures.
