He made five league appearances for the Silkmen and was signed permanently in July 1998. Recovering from a bout of ME he went on to play over 100 games in all competitions for the Moss Rose club before he signed with Port Vale in June 2001. Initially in the first team at Vale Park, he lost his place by December 2001. In January 2003 he contracted meningitis, after doctors confirmed it was the non-lethal strain he was released from hospital.
