As a database expert who has been doing database development and research for over 15 years, Dr. Hicham Elmongui is presenting his view on integrating two fields: context-aware computing and database systems. This book introduces Chameleon, a context aware database management system that has a generic interface to define and process context information within the database management system. As a database expert who has been doing database development and research for over 15 years, Dr. Hicham Elmongui is presenting his view on integrating two fields: context-aware computing and database systems. This book introduces Chameleon, a context aware database management system that has a generic interface to define and process context information within the database management system. Chameleon not only eliminates the need to tailor specialized engines towards a certain context, but also enables instantiating systems that support user-defined complex and composite contexts. In this book, novel aggregation techniques are given to support incorporating context-awareness inside the database management system. Dr. Elmongui has a well-built experience in query processing and optimization through his career in international enterprises. While prototyping his research ideas at Microsoft Research, Dr. Elmongui crystallized his expertise in query processing and optimization within the code base of Microsoft® SQL Server®.
