Citric acid is a useful organic acid having ever growing demand in agro-chemical & food industries. Production of citric acid through bio-route is potential alternative.Recovery of citric acid from fermentation broth is a major challenge for the industries with respect to solid waste management, toxicity, purity and cost-effectiveness which are main drawbacks of existing traditional recovery methods. Reactive extraction is a promising techniques for the recovery of bio-technologically produce citric acid from fermentation broth. However, for the design and development of commercial recovery process exhaustive study of equilibrium and kinetics is essential.
