Cathy Fleischer (pictured here with her sons Jesse and Seth) is a former high school teacher and current professor of English education at Eastern Michigan University, where she teaches courses in literacy, writing, research, and teaching methods for preservice and practicing teachers and co-directs the Eastern Michigan Writing Project (EMWP).As part of her work with the EMWP, Cathy co-facilitates the Family Literacy Initiative-a series of workshops for parents and families on ways to support their own children and teens as writers.Over the past two decades, Cathy also has worked extensively with schools in southeastern Michigan-from offering workshops for teachers and principals to serving on school improvement teams and volunteering in her own sons' classrooms. Cathy is editor of NCTE's Principles in Practice imprint and has published widely in the areas of teacher research, writing pedagogy, and literacy.
