YERCAUD is one of the Hill stations.The native tribal people of the Yercaud hills lining in the 67 Tribal village are known as Malayalis , the Tamil equilent of Hill Tribes .Yercaud town is situated above 4800 ft from mean sea level.The highest peack point in Yercaud taluk is Shevaroyan temple which is situated at a height of 5326.ft.The Madras Public Library Act 1948 and the Madras Public Library Rules 1950 provide for public library service to meet the needs of reading habits for public in the best possible manner in Tamil Nadu at centers where the population is 5000 and more. YERCAUD PUBLIC LIBRARY - It is a Branch Library. It was started in 1995.Now the library has own building.The working area is 2500 sq. feet, Two large reading halls with wooden furniture and separate reference section with reading rooms in addition to the stock room.A separate room is provided for librarian.Now this Library has 23,000 Volumes of Books for its readers.They followed open access system and books are classified in CC.A separate section is established for civil service and other competitive exams.Tamilnadu Governments has initiated Pooravalar schemes for the development library.
