This book is a must read for every person, but specifically for African American females. Historically, the accomplishments of black women are omitted from mainstream history books and the educational curriculum of American children today. Many young people, and even more sadly, many adults, do not know of the significant accomplishments and contributions made by African American women. Black women have forever been contributors to the building of our great nation. However, they are rarely spoken of and unknown. And when Black History Month rolls around, the same names are spoken, including the women, such as Coretta Scott King, Rosa Parks Harriet Tubman. Their notoriety is certainly well-deserved. But so many more like those women exist, before and since they lived. The author of this book, Attorney Nichole Compton was teaching life skills to a group of teenagers, discussing their excitement that Kamala Harris would go from seeking the chance to run for President to becoming the running mate for the presidential candidate Joe Biden. When Attorney Nichole asked her young niece and the group if they knew who Shirley Chisolm was, none had a clue. She was the first Black woman to run for President many decades before the now Vice President Kamala was put her name in the hat. Without Shirley, there may have never been a Kamala. Yet, both are extremely important to shaping American history. Real Queens Like Me is a biographical compilation of stories of real black women who exist or existed in America's history and have contributions or achievements that changed the world for the better. Nichole wrote this book as a work of love and honor. She felt compelled to make sure the real queens listed herein were recognized and remembered. Nichole was determined to compile a book of true stories of real queens, Black women who changed the world. She aims to ensure their legacy lives by educating and inspiring African American women and girls worldwide with true stories of great black women who changed the world. This book, too, will change the world.
