This book focused on the design and implementation of a fuzzy multi-criteria handoff algorithm based on Received Signal Strength (RSS), Path-Loss, Signal to Noise Ratio (SNR) and Traffic Load of Base Transceiver Station (BTS) so to balance traffic in all the neighboring BTSs at any time. This was achieved by using Fuzzy Logic. Fuzzy logic can deal with information arising from computational perception and cognition that is uncertain, imprecise, vague, somewhat true, or without clear boundaries. Fuzzy logic can be used in the development of intelligent systems for decision making for selecting the best network segment. The proposed algorithm is able to balance load of the BTS by handing off some ongoing calls on cell edge in highly loaded BTS to migrate to overlapping under-loaded BTS. In case of low load scenarios, the coverage area of a BTS is presumed to be virtually widened to cover up to the partial serving area of neighboring BTS. This helps a highly loaded neighboring BTS. This book targeted at undergraduate and postgraduate students who want to further their study on traffic balancing in cellular networks.
