Produktbeschreibung
In Rebuilding Hope Through Movement, Dahlia Silberg explores how movement and dance can help children and communities cope with devastating disasters. Through interviews with youth workers after community disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, September 11th, and the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, the author describes helpful movement interventions that promote resiliency and coping skills. Children exposed to these disasters are especially at risk because they are still developing socially, emotionally, cognitively, and physically. The author explains how movement and dance can play a significant role in helping children rediscover play, hope, and self expression and in helping communities create meaningful cultural rituals. The author has created a set of guidelines to support professionals pursuing this kind of work. The book serves as a useful resource in helping future researchers, therapists, dancers, and child advocates make a difference in the lives of child survivors of community disaster.
