Recovery from Depression Using the Narrative Approach explores patients' stories of depression, recovery and useful treatments. Drawing on new and original research, Damien Ridge examines the therapeutic value of engaging with a patient's personal story, or 'narrative' to capture the experience of depression and options for recovery. By taking a person-centered approach, the professional can assist the patient in choosing more helpful narratives, and enable them to become more expert in available treatment options. In this way, patients can gain greater insights into depression, self-management and long-term recovery. In addition, the author investigates just how effective 'recovery tools' such as talking therapies, yoga and complementary therapies, as well as conventional medical approaches are in aiding recovery from depression.
