Autorenporträt
Justin A. McCarthy is an American demographer who was born on October 19, 1945, and used to teach history at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky. He was given the Order of Merit of Turkey in 1998 and has an honorary doctorate from Böazici University in Turkey. He is also on the boards of the Institute of Turkish Studies and the Center for Eurasian Studies (AVIM). He knows a lot about the history of the last few years of the Ottoman Empire. Many experts are very critical of McCarthy's work. They say that McCarthy's views supporting Turkish crimes against Armenians are the same thing as denying genocide. Hans-Lukas Kieser thinks McCarthy has "an indefensible bias toward the official perspective of Turkey." He taught at Middle East Technical University and Ankara University while in the Peace Corps in Turkey from 1967 to 1969. His PhD was from the University of California, Los Angeles, and it was given to him in 1978. After that, Böazici University gave him an honors doctorate. He is also on the board of the Institute of Turkish Studies.
