With increasing concerns about water scarcity throughout the world, desalination technology has gained a lot of attention as one of the sustainable and promising solutions of the water shortage. With increasing concerns about water scarcity throughout the world, desalination technology has gained a lot of attention as one of the sustainable and promising solutions of the water shortage. Among several thermal and membrane desalination technologies, MSF desalination has been widely utilised as the dominant desalination technology in the Middle East and specially Qatar due to the special characteristics of the seawater in the Arabian Gulf such as high salinity seawater and low-priced energy supply. However, cost and energy intensity of MSF process still remains as one of the major limitations. As an effort to reduce water production cost of MSF, hybrid desalination coupling MSF with RO technology has been suggested in this study.
