Poetry is something I started writing years ago, however, life took over! With three children, a fulltime job and a husband who worked different shifts, I was unable to continue. The Long Goodbye is a poem about dementia and my husband John who sadly died in August 2022. I wrote the poem after his death. John was a great musician and when he could no longer play, I went back to having piano lessons in order to play to him. Having moved to Cornwall, and having a new piano teacher, Mark Searle, I suddenly found the first line automatically translated into music in my head, so I wrote it down. Having started I decided to try and write more. When Mark came for my piano lesson, he spotted the pad of manuscript paper, and I showed him what I had done. He liked the beginning and told me when I had finished it and made a fair copy, he would put it onto a computer programme that would provide a printed copy - easier to read than my handwritten version! I have to say a big thank you to Mark for his help and encouragement. Intermission Youth Theatre is a charity which helps young people from 16-24 who are struggling. They are reached through drama, especially Shakespeare. Many have gone on to study at university and have entered the industry. http://www.intermissionyouththeatre.co.uk The Arts are for everyone, never feel you are not qualified, don't have the ability. Pick up a pen , sit at a piano, pick up a guitar or a paintbrush, Anything creative can be a real release for feelings, just have a go!
