AKILI ASAFO- (Akili is ki-swahili meaning one who has intellect or understanding & Asafo is of the twi language of the Akan people of Ghana, west Afrika which means warrior). Akili was born in Queens, N.Y and raised in South Carolina, however he considers himself a world citizen by virtue of being a descendant of the original people; hence the fathers and mothers of civilization! Akili has transformed himself into a well- respected leader, organizer, orator, educator, writer and mentor for the youth. Although he is a first time author he has wrote articles for a prestigious newspaper such as the San Francisco Bayview. He's work with the buring spear aswell. Akili has one of his selections entitled, "a man for a day" on www.thefruitsofeden.com and a selection entitled, "slave of the state" in audio format on prison radio. Akili is also one of the co-founders of the free South Carolina movement (fscm) which is a grassroots organization designed to be a liberating voice for the voiceless; the men, women & children confined in S.C. Akili has also worked on projects with the Malcolm X center for self-determination and many other grassroots organizations and movements that contribute to the nation building effort ! Peace & Power!
