Er ist ein Unternehmer, der sich in einen öffentlichen Bediensteten verwandelt hat und über umfangreiche Erfahrungen in den Bereichen auswärtige Angelegenheiten, Regierungsführung und Staatsaufbau in Somaliland verfügt. Seine politische Laufbahn begann er als Ratsmitglied der Regierungspartei Kulmiye.
