Tissue engineering, a relatively new science integrating developmental, molecular/cellular biology, and genetics with field of engineering holds promise in this area. This field is increasingly being viewed as having enormous clinical potential. The endodontic specialty may be able to adopt many of these new scientific advances emerging from regenerative medicine, thereby developing regenerative endodontic procedures and improving patient care. Dental pulp tissue has the potential to regenerate dentine in response to noxious stimuli, such as caries. The progenitor/ stem cells are responsible for this regeneration. Thus, stem cell therapy has considerable promise in dentin regeneration.Regenerative endodontics comprises research in adult stem cells, growth factors, organ tissue cultures and tissue engineering materials. Often these disciplines are combined, rather than used individually to create regenerative therapies.
