The Augsburger "Allgemeine Zeitung" used to be the most important political newspaper of 19th century Germany. It represents a first-rate source on the political and economic events as well as the general current affairs of the time. Well-known publicists, writers, historians and politicians have all written contributions to the Augsburger "Allgemeine Zeitung" newspaper. The microfiche edition is based on the unique editorial example from the Cotta Archive, where the names of the authors of each article, which were largely anonymous, have been entered in by hand. This in turn provides an insight into the paper's intellectual and editorial background, and accounts for the unique value of this edition. Contributors with a list of their articles are included in the index volumes which conclude each part-edition.
