Reinforced concrete, also called Reinforced cement concrete (RCC), is concrete in which steel reinforcement bars ("rebars"), plates or fibers have been incorporated to strengthen the material that would otherwise be brittle.Reinforced concrete is currently widely used for buildings and other structures such as bridges etc.Building contractor François Coignet was the first to use iron-reinforced concrete as a technique for constructing building structures when he built Parisian houses in the 1850s. His own house at 72 rue Charles-Michels in Paris, built in 1862 still stands. The German company Wayss & Freitag was formed in 1875, with A.G. Wayss publishing a book on reinforced concrete in 1887. Their major competitor in Europe was the firm of François Hennebique, set up in 1892.
