In one of the fastest growing economies, India, the living condition of the residents is degrading in inner-city areas. An effective approach to revamping these areas is needed, lest there could be serious repercussions. This work is an exploration of such approaches in the context of 'smart' cities. Its purpose is to identify and apply a suitable approach to revamp the living conditions and improve the quality of life in the inner-city areas. It is a study of the Central Area of Bhopal city. The perspectives explored are (1) Processes applicable to revamping the inner-city areas; (2) Relationship between these processes; (3) Renewal as the most sustainable process of revamping the inner-city; (4) Assessment for renewal upon the inter-relationship of the factors that affect sustainability. The book is uniquely different since it attempts at revamping the inner-city areas in the context of the 'smart' cities.
