Diabetic mellitus is a global epidemic. The currently available drugs to prevent diabetic complications are not adequately effective. There is a need for better and safer drugs to prevent diabetes and its complications like diabetic nephropathy. India leads the world with the largest number of diabetic subjects earning the dubious distinction of being termed the "diabetes hub of the world". Hence before proceeding to clinical studies, we need a tool to authenticate plants and also to detect their efficacy and safety. Hence, this present study was planned to evaluate the protective effect of four different plant extracts from Momordica charantia, Emblica officinalis, Tribulus terrestris, Trigonella foenum graecium alone and in combination against STZ- induced diabetic nephropathy and Gentamicin- induced nephrotoxicity in Wistar rats.
