Le Tribunal international du droit de la mer est un organe judiciaire indipendant crii par la Convention des Nations Unies sur le droit de la mer, pour connantre des diffirends auxquels pourraient donner lieu l'interpritation et l'application de la Convention. Le Tribunal est ouvert aux Etats Parties la Convention et, dans certains cas, des entitis autres que les Etats Parties (telles que les organisations internationales et les personnes physiques et morales). La compitence du Tribunal s'itend tous les diffirends qui lui sont soumis conformiment la Convention. Elle s'itend igalement toutes les matihres privues de manihre spicifique dans tout autre accord qui confhre compitence au Tribunal.
