The study analyze research efforts carried out & analyze missing links, & place on record development & progress made in LIS research in India for past 20 yrs. In order to achieve this five objectives are framed & two hypotheses formulated. It is divided into six chapters supplemented by bibliography & twelve appendices. The data analysis methods and techniques used are bibliographic analysis, citation analysis, questionnaire method, Interview technique & literary review. The study highlighted the role of UGCs doctoral research programme. It suggests bibliographic control to avoid duplication of work & plagiarism, monitor progress in research, quality control mechanism before publication of research work, awareness about IPR issues & sustain education cum training programme. Developed doctoral research model which reveals that LIS discipline, doctoral research & applications of LIS research are interchangeable and interactive in nature. Critical analysis of the study examines thework for determining the ability and effectiveness. The objectives, findings & suggestions are conscientious & understandable. It provides coherent insight into need, research problem, & interpretation.
