This research raises the issue of journalistic research competence applied in Peruvian sports journalism. For this, an analysis of the mentioned competence in the web content of the newspapers Depor and Líbero during the month of August 2020 was carried out. A corpus of forty texts was reviewed, based on a rubric built especially for this research. This instrument was divided into four dimensions that make up the competence: research method, use of new technological tools, systematic use of research techniques and the construction and presentation of the story. It was concluded that the texts of both newspapers do not show the full use of the journalistic research competence, since no methodical work was found to unveil new information and to obtain conclusions on the topics addressed. On the contrary, the texts were of an informative nature and were devoted to expose facts, without looking for the problem of origin and its causes. In addition, both newspapers frequently used content from other sports media to build their stories, which reflected a scarce journalistic work.
