Incorporating research component explicitly in the undergraduate medical curriculum in a structured and uniform manner seems to be an effective approach for not only enhancing the practice of evidence-based medicine by the clinicians but also by encouraging physician scientist as a career for Medical Graduates. The research skills, when, inculcated in the medical students with early exposure in the first year of MBBS itself, are bound to leave lasting impressions when they will practice medicine in the future. The structured pattern and uniformity in curriculum is bound to ensure that all MBBS graduates possess a myriad of traits like critical reasoning skills, better clinical decision making and analytical skills and scientific writing skills. Such a curriculum enriching reform is the need of the hour for not only producing research competent medical graduates but also to implement bench-to-bedside translational research in order to improve patient care.
