By now it is old news that the twenty-first century promises to be turbulent and will lead to changes in legal and popular concepts about organisations. It is as if organisations find themselves mid-stride between an old and new era, and have not yet found their way in defining their purpose and the consequences for their leadership. We started to observe similar trends in the South African retail industry. The old no longer worked, and tested business practices no longer delivered the expected bottom-line results. People started to change and leadership practices of the past that worked so well now resulted in high employee turnover and disengagement of employees from their workplace. This book tells of our six year journey in the retail industry the journey to sustainable leadership development.
