In the past, residential segregation in Northern Nigeria was characterised by residential separation along ethnic lines which led to the emergence of non-indigene settlements known as the "Sabon Gari" and in the present time it is found along religious lines. Maryam Salihu Muhammad es originaria del estado de Bauchi (Nigeria). Es doctora en Gestión Inmobiliaria y de Instalaciones por la Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM). La autora es profesora titular del Departamento de Gestión Inmobiliaria de la Universidad Abubakar Tafawa Balewa de Bauchi. Es autora de varias obras. Está casada y tiene tres hijos.
