This book is a research about how cities can mitigate and adapt themselves into changing climate conditions, and becoming resilient to future conditions. Chicago Metropolitan Area is selected is for the case study area. Chicago climate action plan, that includes tactics for mitigation and adaptation, has been researched. The short and long term results of the climate action plan have been compared to past conditions. There are three objectives for this thesis. They are; to assess the importance of resilience and adaptation, to assess the principles of resilience and adaptation, to assess the effects of resilience and adaptation plans based on Chicago's climate action plan. To write this thesis two methods are used; literature research about resilient cities and adaptation, assessment of resilience and adaptation through Chicago Metropolitan Area. This thesis researches about energy efficient buildings, clean and renewable energy resources, improved transportation options, reducedwaste and industrial pollution and adapting to new conditions so that cities can be sustainable and their residents can continue their urban life without extreme shocks and stresses.

Sinem is a landscape architect who seeks to create stimulating, functional and sustainable open spaces. Ecological sensitivity and cultural awareness are her most recent concerns. Currently, she is a PhD student at Istanbul Technical University. She continues her research while discovering innovative ways to strengthen human's connection to nature.
