This book is based upon a heartfelt desire to foster restorative justice in the building of more peaceful schools in African communities by encouraging the creation of environments that allow pupils to learn without fear of harsh punitive measures. The book provides an opportunity for both adults and children in school settings to engage with restorative discipline in the form of peacemaking circles and peer mediation whereby a positive school ethos is created, pupils learn interpersonal and problem-solving skills as well as social responsibility, development of skills and confidence in working restoratively, and relationships are built and encouraged daily. The broad aim of the book is to make a contribution towards the implementation of restorative discipline in Zimbabwean and other African school settings in a way that will benefit not only the immediate participants, but also the wider educational fraternity.
