Although most mainstream media normalize violence, media are powerful and useful tools for teaching. The book examines the tension between the use of violent media and the purpose of peace education, which is to confront and transform the culture of violence. Thus, two questions are addressed: "how should media be used in (peace) education?" and "how can media be critically examined with and by youth?" These questions will be explored through a literature review across several academic disciplines and the evaluation of a small-scale educational project at a New York City middle school. The book appeals to researchers interested in the linkages between various fields related to media studies and (peace) education, as well as to educators interested in critical media literacy and using media in theirteaching.
