The hospital environment is a place where a lot of attention is needed precisely because it is an area geared towards meeting healthcare needs. This work presents an application that uses RFID technology to help control access to restricted environments at the Mossoró Oncology and Haematology Centre (COHM). The aim is to automate the process of physical access to hospital rooms in order to implement a security policy. The system was developed using the RFID Starter Kit, a teaching kit aimed at the teaching-learning process of RFID technology. The access authorisation process is carried out by reading an ID card. The application was tested by simulating three possible hospital environments with different access permissions. The result was a prototype of an automatic access controller for restricted environments in hospitals, where access is via an ID card, which can be used to aid the management and administration of public and private establishments with access restrictions.
