Surgical treatment of rhizarthrosis remains a matter of debate, with the choice essentially between total trapezectomy techniques with or without suspension and interposition tendinoplasty, and TM prostheses, as shown by several publications. The majority of authors agree that trapezectomy-interposition-ligamentoplasty techniques give better results, or at least results identical to those of arthroplasty, with fewer disadvantages. This technique is designed to achieve the precise objectives of indolence, stability, mobility and strength of the thumb. Use of the Abductor Pollicis Longus hemi-tendon reduces the destabilizing action of this tendon on the first metacarpal. The aim is to promote abduction and reduce ascent of the first metacarpal on the carpus, as shown by the work of Zancolli et al.
