With his work entitled Ribeirão Grande: Natural Dynamics and their Production of Geographical Space, Professor Anderson Peretto aimed to understand the natural elements and the organisation of geographical space, taking as his starting point the Ribeirão Grande Hydrographic Basin, a tributary of the left bank of the Teles Pires river, located to the south of the municipality of Sorriso, in the northern region of the state of Mato Grosso. The study area is located in the heart of Mato Grosso's Cerrado, a biome which, due to the incessant use of mechanised agriculture, has seen a high rate of environmental degradation, which justifies the relevance of the research. Territorial reorganisation in the Cerrado areas of Mato Grosso's plateaus is directly linked to the physical potential of these areas, which currently stand out as important grain-producing regions. The activities developed on the plateau lands of Mato Grosso have earned the state recognition as an agro-exporter. In the context of capitalist production, the research carried out an environmental analysis of the Ribeirão Grande Hydrographic Basin, considering the relationship between the morphometric aspects of different land uses and socio-spatial production.
