Studies on the stability parameter for grain yield, genotypes IR 71700-247-1-1-2, IR 13146-45-2-3, IR 04A 395, IR 09A 102, IR 09N 190, IR 10A 110, IR 78581-12-3-2-2, GAR 13 and Gurjari were identified as stable genotypes with average stability and wider general adaptability over environments. While, IR 02A 585, IR 77334-99-2-3-2 and IR 09A 104 were identified stable for favorable environments. For identification of restorers and maintainers, out of 33 hybrids, 6 hybrids have more than 80 per cent pollen fertility, whereas 27 hybrids showed the pollen fertility ranging from 51.1 to 80 per cent and they were considered as partial restorers. The results also revealed that the crosses depicted high sca effects for grain yield per plant and different component characters did not involve parents possessing high gca effects. Likewise, hybrids with higher per se performance and higher estimates of heterosis did not ensure higher estimates of sca effects. Therefore, emphasis on per se performance and combining ability effects of parents and hybrids should be considered while selecting them in future breeding programme.
