Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base is a former United States Air Force base located partly within the city limits of Kansas City, Missouri and crossing into northwestern Cass County, just outside Belton, Missouri, 16 miles (26 km) south of downtown Kansas City. Opened for military use in March 1944, the facility was returned to civilian use in 1994. The runways have since been decommissioned and are no longer in use.The City of Kansas City built Grandview Airport (IATA: GVW, ICAO: KGVW, FAA LID: GVW) in 1941. It was used as an auxiliary airport for the Olathe Navy Air Station during World War II. In 1955 the city deeded the airport free of charge to the United States Air Force which named it Grandview Air Force Base.
