In the contemporary context, a number of violations of suspects' rights have emerged as a major issue in Sri Lanka's legal system. This stance has eroded the common man's confidence in the legal system as it causes significant injustice in trials, placing the Sri Lankan legal system in a questionable situation. Thus, the research study focuses on the rights of suspects. Since a trial is composed of three stages: pre-trial, trial, and post trial, the research investigates the rights of suspects in Sri Lanka in the pre-trial stage. International law guarantees were analyzed on the chosen topic. Similarly, the position in Sri Lanka was assessed through the perspective of written law, as well as the practical application of the stipulated provisions. The study employed both empirical research methodology and library and internet research methodology to obtain both qualitative and quantitative data.
