'I ended up finding the disorder of my spirit sacred' (RIMBAUD, 1983:.65), said Rimbaud, expressing how his poetry gave him access to the most precious and expensive knowledge: his self-knowledge. In my opinion, this is the only conclusion I can reach here. This should be the path of the social sciences: self-knowledge. More than looking to the past for explanations for present problems, and beyond avoiding the transposition of European theories in favour of an original Latin American way of thinking, as Brazilian social scientists we must seek self-knowledge, redefine our science, in other words, our way of thinking. This book was written precisely for this purpose, and brings together the research and reflections undertaken in my Master's Dissertation. These are epistemological reflections based on the poetry and biography of Arthur Rimbaud, which serve to elevate art to the status it has always deserved in the search for knowledge: a singular and fundamental place. This is scientific and sensitive research that aims to combine reason and emotion.
