Risk analysis is the fundamental methodology used in the development of food safety standards. It is comprised of three separate, yet interconnected elements: risk assessment, risk management and risk communication. The findings of an expert consultation, ''The Application of Risk Management to Food Safety Matters'', held in Rome from 27-31 January 1997 are described in this report. Risk management and food safety - Report of a Joint FAO/WHO Expert Consultation is one of a series of FAO/WHO publications on this topic. It provides a risk management framework and general principles of food safety risk management.
