The projects in Petra to Mitigation of Immediate Hazards in the Siq of Petra",and aims at the prevention and mitigation of landslide risk in the Siq of Petra. Rock fragility, weathering and superficial water circulation are the most powerful geomorphologic factors that helped shaping the 'Siq' in its present condition. Although rock falls are relatively infrequent, several incidents of small/medium sized blocks have occurred at PAP in the last 10 years, with a yearly recurrence since 2009. These are dangerous phenomena which can cause damage and loss of cultural monuments and human life. The Projects move forward in tackling the major challenges that confront rock stability of the 'Siq' area in the next decade informed of the needs and vulnerabilities of the diverse natural and cultural heritage of the site, the basic rights of the local communities and the obligations towards the World Heritage Committee. This works seeks to benefit all those looking to the Petra Archaeological Park Authority to provide a high level of visitor safety and satisfaction.
