Faced with the challenge of Cameroon's emergence, the problem of the fight against poverty takes on a particular tone with the acuteness of the debates on the strategies to be implemented to promote growth. Thus, the new actors, namely the decentralized local authorities and the populations, are setting up innovative strategies on a daily basis, in parallel with government programmes and projects, using their endogenous resources. The watermelon market in Bangangté is part of this dynamic. This study analyses the contribution of this market to the improvement of the living conditions of the actors involved in it. To do this, it is based on a quantitative and qualitative methodology. The results of the survey show that the watermelon market is a real opportunity to fight poverty in the Bangangté commune. However, the low level of organisation of traders and the lack of clarity in the management of stocks and income prevent them from making the most of the market and turning their activity into a real lever for social self-advancement.
