This book seeks to provide and improve knowledge on the association of alcohol with traffic injuries and policy response to the growing problem of road crashes in Kenya. It starts by presenting a comprehensive analysis of existing literature on the subject in developing countries and goes further to present primary data on alcohol from crash-involved patients and roadside surveys of drivers. The author highlights the potential value of evidence-based advocacy for a public policy on the prevention of alcohol-related road crashes and gives examples of how this can be used to develop a broader national road safety policy in Kenya. The research process in itself presents an important learning experience to the author, makes a significant contribution in his career and presents opportunities for promoting action-oriented injury research in Kenya and globally.
