Official statistical data provided by the World Health Organization, as well as the results of research of leading universities in the United States and Western European countries are given. The author proposes to adopt a state program aimed at: attracting scientific potential to study the causes leading to road accidents; forming the basis and priority direction in the application of preventive measures aimed at reducing the number of road accidents and reducing its dangerous consequences; coordinating the activities of executive bodies, local authorities in the field of ensuring safe road traffic; implementation of a set of measures aimed at the application of preventive measures, which can positively influence the development of the road traffic safety system.
