He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He first played for Ireland against I Zingari in August 1899, and next played in Ireland's first four first-class matches in 1902, his last coming against Cambridge University. He later played for a Scottish Counties team against Yorkshire in 1910 in a match that was abandoned after one day due to the death of King Edward VII. Cambridge University Cricket Club is a first-class cricket team. It now plays all but one of its first-class cricket matches as part of the new Cambridge University Centre of Cricketing Excellence. Home fixtures are played at Fenner's. The earliest reference to cricket at Cambridge University is in 1710. A Cambridge University team played matches against an Eton team in 1754 and 1755, although those were not first-class matches. We do not know if the Eton teams were present or past pupils.
