Born in Toronto, Ontario, August 20, 1966, Bodrog studied philosophy and political science at the University of Prince Edward Island and did graduate work at Harvard University where he received a master's degree, before studying photography at York University in Toronto under the well known Canadian photographer Michael Semak. After completing his M.F.A. degree, Bodrog spent two years in Japan as a photography instructor and doing freelance assignments. He also worked on Japanese director Amon Miyamoto's critically acclaimed 1998 film Beat .
