The oeuvre of Belgian artist Robert Devriendt is inextricably linked with film. His paintings are small in scale, and can be seen as a series of stills when displayed together. Often enigmatic and without any definite script, the works are experienced as unresolved or fragmented narratives, wherein the observer is automatically transformed into co-director, and must therefore create his or her own story. Through essays and reproductions, this volume provides an overview of Devriendt's body of work, with special emphasis on his most recent production.
