Role of body fluids in Forensics. In present times, crimes and rapes are increasing disastrously. Most of the crimes remain unrevealed or unsolved due to lack of evidence.Body fluids can play an important role in crime investigation. It is a substantial evidence that can be relied upon in court. Body fluid traces such as blood, semen, saliva, sweat, urine and vaginal fluid are often recovered at crime scene. They contain valuable DNA evidence which can identify a suspect or victim as well as exonerate an innocent individual. Many body fluid stains are either invisible to the naked eye or similar in appearance to other fluids/ substances. The first step of identifying a particular body fluid is highly important since the nature of the fluid is very informative for the investigation.Driven by the importance of forensic applications, body fluid identification methods have been extensively developed in recent years. Each of the body fluid has one or more screening tests that are presumptive in nature and some of them have confirmatory tests that will conclusively identify their presence. Some of the tests can identify the species of a particular fluid.
