This study evaluated the Health and Safety Programs Conformity with the Set Standards Measures in Disaster Risk Reduction Strategy in Selected Kenya's Horticultural Research Institutions. The study noted that the horticultural sub-sector is one of the heaviest consumers of pesticides. Pesticides are widely used for prevention and control of pests, diseases, weeds, fungi and nematodes (WHO, 1986). Given that under the Plant Protection Products Regulation 1107/2009 (pesticides) and Biocidal products Regulation 528/2012 (Biocides) ¿endocrine disrupting properties¿ were termed hazard-based. This poses a serious problem for the exposed workers and their employers as these substances are in constant use. The occupational medicine literature highlights the negative health effects associated with the exposure of agricultural workers to pesticides (Hanke and Jurewicz, 2004). The researcher regarded it important to consider various health and safety enablers and how these measures can be managed effectively as strategy in disaster risk reduction.
