Poverty alleviation has always been a concern in developing countries, including Haiti. From the late 1970s to today, this country has faced economic and political instability, with a large negative impact on social indicators. Despite considerable funding unlocked to help this country and multiple strategic development plans, the situation has hardly changed. Therefore, this research paper focuses on social entrepreneurship as a development tool coming from the private sector to fight poverty, exclusion and marginalization. To reach this goal, a survey has been conducted, consisting of interviews with eight social entrepreneurs and three nongovernmental organizations. Some young entrepreneurs and ministry officials have also participated in the survey to provide a full picture. The results show that social entrepreneurship seems to be a promising way to exploit poverty-reduction opportunities, while applying business practices in a sustainable manner. This study suggests to promote this concept with emphasis on the social aspect, as a complement to other forms of government social interventions, a more pronounced of Diaspora and adequate legal and financial framework.
