Leo never felt that things were normal in Thornbrook. He and his best friend Willie are outliers in a town of inhabitants that appear to be in a trance. Thornbrook had a certain haze that outsiders couldn't comprehend. Like always, the trees swayed with the signs of the shops, and the people buzzed about, their eyes glazed over, their smiles lifeless. The people were like hollow shells, the shops empty vessels. Willie and Leo befriend Day, a mysterious girl who begins showing up at their coveted secret place by the river. Everything grows stranger every day once Willie and Leo explore Leo's attic and find a gruesome photograph possibly tied to Leo. With Willie's discovery of an old, abandoned warehouse with Leo's last name in the title: Kaylock Fabric Warehouse, secrets begin to unravel as the discovery of a deep connection is established between Leo and the photographs and mementos that they find. When a camping trip goes terribly wrong and Day goes missing, along with the strange behavior of Mr. Laurent, it becomes clear that the happenings in Thornbrook are much more sinister than they thought. Together, they begin to find the secret plans of Floyd, and must find a way to put an end to the powers holding Thornbrook in place.
